Spring is certainly in the air here, and I guess that is when a lot of babies are born, as there are Birthdays EVERYWHERE!!
Michelle, who works in my store, is turning the big '4' '0' so the rest of us thought we should surprise her with a quilt. She claims to have enough quilts (say what??!?!?), so we thought we would make her an extra special teeny tiny wall hanging. This girl loves BRIGHT, and keeps hassling Margaret and I about our teeny tiny everything, so we started by doing a few quarter inch hexagons, just to prove that we could! The quilt then became a bit of a round robin. I started by working a tree in the centre (this is from my latest BOM "In My Garden" and Michelle had commented on this tree when I first showed her the quilt - has she been dropping hints all this time?? hmmmmmm....), then Margaret added the wavy oval border (is there a special patchwork term for this?), then Margaret, Suzanne, Di and I all worked the 3" squares for the borders, with Deb (my mailorder queen who does NOT DO PATCHWORK) stitching some words to add to the border. I only received everything 2 days ago, so it was a mad scramble to piece it all together, quilt and bind it in time for her Birthday - nothing like a deadline to get the heart pumping.
Anyway, here is the final product. I love friendship quilts with everone's personalities going into them. Thankfully Michelle seemed to LOVE it, and she doesn't even mind turning 40! Now she's one of us ;)
